Welcome to the SAPO Trust Production section, designed to provide nurseries and producers with easy-to-use information on available cultivars, rootstocks and ordering procedure of plant material.

Responsible for the production of certified propagation plant material according to the rules and regulations of the South African Plant improvement Act and Plant Certification Scheme.

IP owners also contract us to distribute their cultivars trees/vines from preferred and SAPO Trust contracted nurseries to producers according to their order specifications.

Services include inspection and certification of foundation and mother blocks for clients and the multiplication of new released cultivars to supply in the demand as quickly as possibly.

Order Procedure to obtain trees or vines from SAPO Trust

Semi - Commercial phase

Step 1: Producers order trees/vines (maximum 5 000 trees and maximum 5 producers to plant the 5 000 trees/vines) with their specifications from SAPO Trust directly or through the appointed service provider.
Step 2: Producers pay deposit and sign non-propagation agreement with order at SAPO Trust.
Step 3: SAPO Trust keeps producers informed about progress with trees/vines and any problems that might be experienced.
Step 4: Producers pay full outstanding amount with applicable royalties included.
Step 5: SAPO Trust supplies trees/vines to producers.

Commercial phase

Step 1: Producers order trees/vines of the varieties from SAPO Trust with their specifications directly or through the appointed marketing agent.
Step 2: SAPO Trust supplies producer with a name list of potential SAPO contracted nurseries.
Step 3: Producer chooses his preferred nursery and confirms that rootstocks for order are reserved at preferred nursery in advance.
Step 4: Producer pays deposit and sign non-propagation agreement with order at SAPO Trust.
Step 5: SAPO Trust places order according to specifications with preferred nursery and supply nurseries with scions at no costs.
Step 6: SAPO Trust keeps producers informed about progress with trees/vines and any problems that might be experienced.
Step 7: Nursery supplies SAPO Trust with all the trees/vines produced from the scions of a specific variety.
Step 8: SAPO Trust checks the quality and specifications of the trees/vines from the nursery and pays the nursery, if satisfied, for the trees/vines.
Step 9: Producer pays SAPO Trust the full outstanding amount for trees as well as the applicable royalties.
Step 10: SAPO Trust supplies trees/vines to producers.
